Time:08:46 am
vwelll what to say on livejournal.

i'm sitting in an airport once again. i got here too early, i forget how small the GR lines are. i'm really excited. too excited... this is not a good thing. i feel i've been waiting to go out west for a while with a slight scaredness of dealing with the attitude that i think LA possesses. but the people i've met from there have been genuine which makes me feel more at ease. so there are a few there like that.

i really just can't wait to see my friends out there. seriously! if for nothing else i'm pumped about that and that my cousin is getting married in vegas. first family cousin wedding.

please american airlines get me there safe.

Subject:Tonight
Time:09:34 am
Hey thought i'd post this on my LJ.

FREE TONIGHT (Wed Nov 30th) at GVSU at 7:30pm the documentary 'Dear Francis' will be screened in the Kirkhof Center (215/216) to take part of HIV/AIDS Awareness week.

This is a 63 minute film that I helped with the production of in Swaziland, Africa. I hope some of you can make it!

visit dearfrancis.org to view the trailer.

dvds will also be for sale and the a good portion of the dvd profits will go to help build 6 foster homes in Swaziland. or if you have your own idea about where else it can be screened let me know... we can set something up. it's been accepted into different festivals around the country so come one come all tonight.

----
Synopsis

Dear Francis puts a face to the AIDS pandemic as it chronicles the personal stories of two strangers and the Swazis they befriend. After the UN officially declared the small African kingdom of Swaziland to be the world's most HIV-infected nation, Lance and Kelly, two Texas college students with high ideals, great hopes, and a bit of naiveté, embark on a most unconventional AIDS prevention program. Developing relationships with their students, they discover that the causes of this plague are much more disturbing and complex than they could have ever imagined. Through this unique story and interviews with Swaziland's leading experts, the film highlights the hope of a nation's future against seemingly insurmountable odds... one life at a time.

Subject:old stomping grounds
Time:11:54 pm
so right now i have pretty much nothing to do. i'm waiting for wrap on set.... so that means sitting in the office until they call. so i thought i would update my old stomping grounds....

things are good here. i love the people i work with, they really are great. i'm learning a ton. my days are in 12 hour shifts which consist of picking up people at the airport, delivering things to set, making copies, calling people, answering phones, laughing, and discovering pieces of fungus and/or animal hairs in the water bottles we drink.

this really isn't all that interesting... i just feel like i need to do something right now at almost midnight o'clock. one more day tomorrow then it's sunday. wooohoo. i think we have an early out tomorrow which is excitng.

yeah, that's it.

i wish i had a book to read.

1. Reply with your name and I will write something random about you.
2. I will then tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3. I will pick a flavor of jello to wrestle with you in.
4. I will say something that only makes sense to you and me.
5. I will tell you my first memory of you.
6. I will tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll then ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your LJ

Time:11:53 am
i thought i might as well post this from my g-rad blog a log log. since i haven't updated lj in a while.
----

well chicago was enjoyable...

i walked around filmed some sites...

then met up with an old 21 prospect neighbor joe. i had some of the best mexican food ever. we walked by wrigley feild and the waterfront. then i got a little lost on the blue line... this reminds me of george's post, but it was a night.

---
then it was on to denver... i brought in the rain.

denver never has rain so my thursday was a waste. i needed it though, i was exhausted. i was in line getting food and didn't realize there was a step to the left of me... i completely stumbled and fell on a girl. that was when i knew i was in bad shape.

friday was a nice day and it wasn't raining. i went around the city and got to see red rocks!

now i'm back in georgia for the next two weeks.

Time:10:35 pm
the DR was beautiful. i was in the city of san juan which is in the mountains and is a lot cooler than other parts of the dominican... sometimes 10 degrees cooler, which makes a huge difference. the heat was bearable, not as bad as i suspected.

this picture was taken on our last day in san juan. one of the hosts drove me around on a motorcycle to film the country side since most of my time was in the city. everyone in san juan seemed to own a motorcycle or moped... it was main mode of transportation. stop signs, stop lights, weren't recognized... you just beeped your horn when going through. however, it was a little different in Santiago and Santo Domingo... they used theirs since both are larger cities.

each day in the city the skim ice man would come by where we were staying. skim ice is like flavor ice... but TEN times better. they were refreshing after being out in the hot hot heat.

this was the fresh pineapple i bought off the street only 1 buck!

this was one of the traditional dominican meals we ate for breakfast as i mentioned in the previous post. i ate the plantains... yum!

besides meeting the people i learned some of the history. i didn't know much about the DR before going... besides knowing that Christopher Columbus first landed there. what I didn't know was that when he landed he killed off pretty much the whole Indigenous population and today most Dominicans are mixed with African and Indian blood... there are no original full blood Indians in the DR-- which saddens many people there.

overall the trip was great! i loved being able to walk around the city and on my way back to santiago took a fantastic bus with air conditioning and really got to see the country.

my last night in the DR was in Santiago and met a girl from upstate new york who was studying there for the summer. i hung out with some of her friends and we went to the monument and just walked around. it was fun not having a camera strapped to my side.

so i returned sunday and had a layover in miami. even though the DR is so close, it was weird returning this time and having to actually talk to people to get things. everyone spoke spanish and since it was my job to stay behind the camera and not get too involved with the group i was with i didn't talk much.

so being back in the US [even though i feel the DR is SO close] was a little odd after being away only for a week. even though i couldn't speak the language-- people were so hospitable and friendly. so i was a little disappointed at the american attitudes coming back in the airport and actually having to talk to people again. haha. i'm fine now... it was just strange because i didn't feel that way coming back from rwanda. [i hope to have a cd full of pictures from rwanda at the end of the week. i hope to post a few soon!]

i'll find out tomorrow if i head to mexico at the end of the week. it's been a YES, then a NO, now a MAYBE. so we'll see what the boss says. at this moment i'm back in GA. next week i will be in atlanta... that's for sure.

right now i'm burning interviews so they can be transcribed...

i wish i could go for a run right now. however, the roads around here are too curvy and the cars go whhhaayy too fast.

the DR is going to be even hotter than here in GA. i can't even imagine.

i need to start sifting through this footage. i need not to procrastinate. i don't know what my deal is w/ editing but it is just something that i do not get excitied about.

i dragged kelli around yesterday when returning a microphone & picking up tapes. then we put some footage to tape. this morning i started logging tapes. OH SO TEDIOUS. must have a highlight video ready for tomorrow night when we all exchange pictures and what not.

i need a deadline. that's the only way i get things done.

i have a lot of stuff to do not including the 15 hours of tape i recorded while in rwanda.

we made it back... it was a fabulous time. i just started looking over the footage today & it looks pretty good.

i found out yesterday that 1 hour after i picked up the camera before i took off for africa... my friend nate got jumped on division. seriously, i can't believe that even now.

Time:03:35 pm
i have never been to such a beautiful country in my life. when some of you see the pcitures you will not even believe this place exists.

overall so far it's been great. the rwandanese have accepted us with open arms and have met many fantastic people. the kids all want our water bottles which they call, chupas. no, not chalupas, but chupas.

we've been in the country side by the 2nd largest fresh water lake in the world. i went swimming in africa, tomorrow we are going hiking, and today we are going to be working w/ AIDS patients.

last night we moved to a new location that is right by the congo. we will be here for the next 7 days. i've been feeling kinda sick now & again but nothing i can't handle.

later all.

Subject:updates galore
Time:08:12 am
another layover. i can't believe how much i'm updating this thing... i really doubt it will be this frequent.

i actually slept on the last flight, it was nice. the wine helped. ummm, i watched a baliwood film... for a little bit before i slept. they're fun to watch, most i've seen have the same premise. still entertaining. i think our next flight is only an hour and thne we'll be there. some probs w/ luggage, hopefully my bag arrives.

oh i forgot to add we took a boat tour on the last post. that was cool just to see all the buildings in amsterdam. not enough time to see kenya or anything. but that's all for now.

slept kinda on the plane... kinda not.. it was a weird sleep like usual.

i am in amsterdam. i love it here. i love how they ride their bikes everywhere, the small streets are great, they have a whole 3 story parking garge just for bikes MILLIONS of bikes i tell ya. i took some footage. we did happen to cross the red light district, in the middle of the day. ate at a cafe & now back at the airport awaiting a flight to nirobi.

i wish could stay longer in amsterdam.

i posted this on myspace too, since internet is so fast here... which is a surprise.

oh an addition!!.. i smelt some tulips that were wooden. they weren't like the ones in holland, mi though. but they do have wooden shoes all over the place.. perhaps i got a picture taken in a LIFESIZE wooden shoe. hahahaha.
